CONGRATULATIONS TO 2007 NCBTA SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS!

Diane Lovett, Choice Hotels International
Wanda Payne, CTE, Freight Handlers, Inc.
Cheryl Wingert, Sonoco

All of us at NCBTA congratulate Diane, Wanda and Cheryl on being selected as our 2007 Scholarship winners.  NCBTA supports the pursuit of professional certification through the National Business Travel Association’s programs and educational offerings. Due to our affiliation with NBTA, NBTA Foundation and the Chapter President’s Council, we have offered educational scholarships for a variety of programs to worthy NCBTA members.

Diane Lovett is currently the National Sales Director for Choice Hotels.  Her job is to maintain and grow Choice Hotel’s position within existing corporate market segments, developing market strategies, along with focusing on business development and sales results within the corporate account and corporate travel agency market segments. This includes direct sales efforts for Choice Hotels with identified national accounts primarily based in the southeast. Diane started with Choice Hotels in September of 2001, just two weeks after the events of 9/11.  Diane has been a long time member of NCBTA having joined sometime shortly after moving to the Charlotte area around 1990.  Due to feedback from a co-worker, Diane plans to enroll in the Master’s level of the Global Leadership Program.

Wanda Payne is CTE certified and currently serves as the Corporate Travel Manager at Fuquay Varina based Freight Handlers Incorporated.  She has over 30 years experience in the travel and hospitality industries.  Her responsibilities at Freight Handlers includes maximizing cost savings through managing customer and travel supplier relationships; managing company travel policies and programs; developing and maintaining travel manuals and website information; consulting employees on matters relating to business travel; improving performance standards and identify opportunities for process improvement.  Wanda will celebrate her 8 year anniversary with Freight Handlers in November, 2007 and has been a member of NCBTA for five years. Wanda plans to use part of the scholarship towards the cost of the CTE class offered at the NBTA Convention, convention expenses and the cost of the exam.  The remaining funds will go towards individual CCTE classes or NBTA sponsored classes or events which further professional development.

Cheryl Wingert works as a Travel Buyer/Manager at Sonoco, a global packaging company, in the corporate supply management group and responsible for purchasing travel services as well as procuring and managing wireless services.  Cheryl started at Sonoco managing their hotel program and this past January was promoted to managing and procuring all travel services. At Sonoco, Cheryl reports directly to NCBTA Board Member, Marc Ensign, Director of Strategic Sourcing.  Marc has been a significant influence on her knowledge of the travel procurement industry.  He has been very helpful by encouraging opportunities to grow her knowledge of travel procurement through participation in corporate travel organizations like NCBTA and NBTA.  Cheryl has been with Sonoco for five years and a member of NCBTA the past three years.  She completed her CTE certification last year in Chicago which had a profoundly positive effect as a valuable addition to her travel education. As a result of that experience, she plans to pursue the CCTE designation and enrolling in the upcoming Master's level Global Leadership Program.
